My first memory of actually going to a pro ball game was in Detroit @ 1955. (At home my sainted Garndma had the radio games on everyday -- so much so that her parakeet used to say "Hoot Evers is up" until you wanted to wring his neck.)

Anyway for my first ever, Ned Garver pitched the first of two and JIm Delsing, Bill Tuttle -- two non household names, and Al Kaline threw out 4 runners at home plate. In a pre game show they had an inter city all star league event; an inning or two to showcase the kids. A small colored -- that was what we called them then -- kid in center field make a running, diving, catch of a line drive that had everyone out of their seats.

Been hooked ever since.

As a kid, we'd go to see the Portland Beavers, the local farm club. Then, as now, there is no Major league baseball in Portland. And now, there's not even a farm club in Portland.

My first Major League game was in Kansas City, when the A's were still there. Mid sixties. Kansas City is still the only town that I've ever seen MLB in person.

WAYNO.

My first pro game was in Cincinnati to see the Reds in 1975. I don't remember who they played (I was six at the time and saw several games in 3-4 years). I do remember going to see them play the Dodgers in '77. George Foster hit a line drive laser beam into the second deck. I swear the ball was still on the way up. He hit 52 that year and that one won the game that day.

The Big Red Machine was pretty awesome but the ownership was too cheap to pay them to stay together.

I still try to watch them on Fox Sports channel on the dish. They are in extras with Indians right now: 7-7 in the 12th.

I wish I had a dollar for all the games I heard Marty Brennamen an Joe Nuxall call on the radio over the years.... I could buy another Ruger!!

Yes, at Wrigley Field...NO, not THAT Wrigley Field, but the replica in Los Angeles where the Pacific Coast League Los Angeles Angels played. The Angels were a Cubs farm team at the time. My parents took me to my first game and they had seats behind home plate. I took my glove but moved out to the seats by the left field line to possibly catch a foul ball out there. While walking there, I was so loaded with my glove, a hot dog, and a drink, I was unable to catch a foul that was hit near me.
I remember Charlie Neal played 2nd base and Steve Bilko played first. Bilko once hit 55 HR's in a season in the minors.
Wrigley Field in L.A. is also famous for having the original HR Derby filmed there during the 50's. Some of the contestants were Mickey Mantle, Rocky Colavito and Harmon Killebrew, amongst others. Each week it was one player against another. All of this, before the DODGERS came to L.A. Good Times!

I was about 10 years old. Miami, FL did not have MLB for a very long time, but a lot of teams had spring training in the area, so I got to see the Baltimore Orioles with Frank Robinson play the Boston Red Sox with Carl Yastrzemsky, but that was a long time ago. I did not go with anyone in my family, but went with other cub scouts. TD

Old Busch Stadium, 1954 - The Cardinals legend Stan Musial.

Saw Dizzy Dean once in downtown St. Louis - driving a bright yellow Stutz Bearcat, IIRC.

My first baseball game was in 1959 and I'll never forget it. I was the center fielder for a little league team named Sunny View in the Knoxville, TN area. We were playing a city league team in the Lonsdale community. There were no outfield fences around the field and there were some trees in the outfield where some black kids were playing. Somebody hit a long fly ball into the trees in center field and hit one of the black kids in the back with the ball. The boy evidently thought I had thrown the ball and hit him because he drew a knife and come running at me. He chased me all the way into the infield before some men stopped him.

That would probably make the news papers today especially if it was a white kid chasing a black ball player but it didn't amount to much back then. They just ran the kid off and the game resumed. It didn't make playing the rest of the game easy for me because I was trying to keep one eye on the trees and one eye on the game.

There's no way I could remember my first ball game. My uncle was a player, so my dad took us to his games when we were babies. Why pay a baby sitter?

Must have been 1962, got to tour a Nike Base in the morning with my old cub scout den, then went to a Twins game with the boy scouts in the afternoon. Got to see Harmon Killabrew hit a grand slam. What a day!

Pacific Coast League in the early 50's. Los Angeles Angels played in the duplicate Wrigley Field in L.A. Don't remember who they played, my memory is walking towards the left field sideline when a foul was hit my way. Sadly I missed it as I had a glove on, carrying a hot dog and soda.

^^^ That was about the same time/place I saw my first, and only, live baseball game. My across-the-street neighbor took me.

Edit: live professional baseball game.

First game, Mets v Reds at Shea about '67. Score was 13-1? I could be of a run or two but was a blow out.

I remember my first professional baseball game, although it was the minor leagues. Mobile Bears vs. Chattanooga Lookouts around 1961 or so. In 1947 Chuck Conners played for the Mobile Bears.

The first one I remember was Dad taking me to Yankee stadium in 1966. Mickey was in LF
since he was too slow to cover center at that point.

I was told we also went to one which I don't remember. 1962, Houston Colt 45s, vs the Cardinals
complete with Stan the Man.
