A couple of weeks ago I had a Wednesday afternoon doctor's appointment, 2:00 p.m. Nowthat clinic is posted no firearms. so I went unarmed. After leavng the clinic, I go home, pick up my Ruger and my Bible for Wednesday night prayer service and Bible Study.

Well, I was nt to leave that clinic until 4:45 p.m. Wednesday night supper starts at 5:45 p.m. Well, I had just enought time to leave the clinic and go straight to my church. No Bible, no Ruger.

I told the pastor "I'm completely unarmed tonight!"

Pastor knew what I meant.

(We often say coming to church without your Bible is like a soldier going to battle wkithout his rifle.)

I know some will disagree but I would have just left it locked in my vehicle as I went to the docs. In S.C. it is law not to carry in a medical facility. No sign needed it is taught in the concealed weapons class.

I don't care about signs, I carry concealed...

Should I have need of my firearm in a location that is "posted", I plan to have it. Personal protection is my responsibility and no sign will keep someone "safe".

Myself I feel that it is a matter of personal ethics to respect the property rights of the owner.
If you object to the posting then take your business eleswhere.

I will not carry in a post office, medical facility, school, sporting events, or someone's private home.
Otherwise, signs in commercial businesses mean nothing to me.
I do not go to bars.

Our church we have a number of members who are armed. I suggested that they all take some kind of defensive training as I know some are very effective against the ever-dangerous shoot and see. I was told that the church would not do that because they didnt want any connection to those individuals' actions due to liability. Some of them are ex-military, ok. Some????

Some people clearly have unjustified confidence in "No Guns" signs, or in having a single uniformed and armed security guard at the entrance to a building. My brother is involved with an organization that had been the target of some pro-Palestinian threats. They have an off duty, but uniformed police officer at the front of their building when meeting, but otherwise prohibit guns in the building. My brother and his comrades seem to not realize that if someone were truly intent on causing harm, it would relatively simple to take out the off duty cop and then enter the building knowing that they would not face any other armed resistance. I tried to convince my brother of how secure they would be if it they encouraged the attendees to be armed, and posted a "Concealed carry welcome on these premises" type sign, but to no avail.

The problem with this is that if you are caught you may be committing a felony and lose all gun rights. I think all gun free zones should be eliminated though. If LEO can go there I should be able to go there.

Well, I've carried for over 30 years. The key word here is "concealed". I'd rather take the chance of legality versus watching someone I love get killed... My choice only.

I can fully agree with this thought. This is why we all need to fight HARD against such laws & get them changed. But until we do,, being a lawful gun owner, by obeying the rules is the best way to do things. And as noted,, we can most often CHOOSE to NOT patronize a private business who refuses to allow us the Freedom we should have.

I have had a few conversations over the years of small business owners when I saw a posted sign against carrying a firearm. I very calmly & politely express my safety concerns, and ask if they have a heavily armed security force to ensure my safety. (None ever have.) Then I politely explain that while I FULLY understand their right to post their business,, AND that as a Vet,, I defended those rights,, I can also choose to never patronize their business. And that I'll be sharing with my family & friends how that business can't protect us in the event of a dangerous encounter. I also POLITELY explain how, that if by chance I were to be involved in such an event, and injured or killed,, my self or my family would sue the heck out of them for failing to allow me the ability to protect myself. Even if we lose the lawsuit,, we'd do all we could to destroy the business & owner for failing to provide a safe environment.

Surprisingly,,a few have removed their signage.

One owner told me his insurance company said they'd cancel their insurance policy if they didn't post the property. I politely told him to call a different insurance agency to find a better company that understands freedom.

Willful & blatant disregard for the law is not the answer.

Fighting for CHANGES in the law is the best thing. Use facts, and a calm demeanor, and allow places to see the potential of their own personal risks if their actions cause a bigger problem.

Fortunately, I live in a state where you can carry almost anywhere (obviously not in a UPSO, federal bldg, courthouse, some schools...etc). You can even, legally carry on college campuses. But if a place is posted, all they can do is tell you to leave. If you don't, you'll get a ticket for trespassing. That said, I usually leave it locked in my vehicle when I go to a doctor or hospital. Although, I doubt my doctor would have an issue with it.
