I sure do, I have always felt the 7.62x39 round was good medicine for 300 yards and less... Accurate and hits hard for an "intermediate" caliber.

Way back in the '90's my father went in with some of his work buddies and they bought a case of SKS's and each rifle came with a case of 1200 rounds of the corrosive Chinese ammo... for some reason I bought another SKS... this one with a 16" barrel.. put folding stocks on both and both have non detachable 20 round magazines on them... try to find one of those....been probably 15 years since I shot one of them....still got 1300 rounds of the ammo... most of it the corrosive primer stuff.... it's all in ammo cans labeled. "WTSHTF AMMO"

Turned my nose up at the initial introduction of the cartridge here in the states. Missed out at numerous deals on SKS rifles.
Then was loaned an SKS, plenty of ammo & a 200 yard range with multiple targets. I soon became sold, both the rifle, a surprise, & the cartridge. Still relevant so many decades later.

The sad part is what the rifle was designed for... soldier shoots it a few times and then a guy in the next wave behind him picks it up and shoots it a few times and then the guy in the next wave.... well you get the picture... and that is how the Chinese fight.... I forget who the comedian is or was that said, "you don't mess with a billion of anything."

Yes, I have a variety of 7.62x39's ranging from claptrap SKs to AR platform to Rossi single shot to a bolt action carbine. Even have a 10.5" AR 'pistol'. The SKS & AK are utilitarian and lean more to the functional rather than individually accurate.
A couple of my AR's are surprisingly accurate if fed proper ammo. Possibly the unluckiest coyote ever born fell to a 200+ yard poke with one old SKS. Hey, the bullet had to land somewhere, right?

When I was in the Army,, we had occasional trips to the range to get a "familiarization" of various other weapons,, not made in the USA. I got to shoot AK's, SKS's, & several others.

Then, one day,, at the Ft. Hood post public range,, I got to shoot an individual's SKS. It shot VERY well & very accurately. We discussed it & all, (after I had tried to buy it & he turned me down,) and it was an education.
Well, a few years later,, I bought an SKS,, and put it away,, for "whatever & whenever!" I have shot it some,, and I have ammo & reloading dies for mine.
But I'm mostly a handgunner,, so long arms don't get range trips very often.

There's a couple Mini 30's in my safe. They're not the most accurate or most powerful rifles but more than accurate and powerful enough and just fun to shoot. I remember reading somewhere that Bill Ruger took some heat from gun writers about why he was chambering the Mini in the AK caliber so shortly after the Vietnam war. His response was because it's a hell of a cartridge. I agree with that.

I like 7.62x39 and have owned several firearms chambered for the cartridge over the years, including SKSs, AKs, ARs, and my favorite, a Ruger American Ranch rifle. I think a couple of things have kept it from being more popular than it is:

1) Bullet diameter is traditionally in the 0.310"-0.312" range. No idea what most American made rifles like my Ruger have for bore diameter - guess I'll have to figure that out when I start reloading for it.

2) There are two competing 'standards' for 7.62x39 AR barrels and bolts. Colt was (IIRC) the first company to chamber ARs for the round, and they used bolts with the bolt face cut slightly deeper than .223/5.56 bolts. When other companies started chambering the round, they basically just widened the bolt face on existing .223/5.56 bolts, resulting in a different 'standard' - you can't mix the parts up or headspace will change in a drastic way. I think most of what you see in the AR world today is the non-Colt 'standard'.

(Unfortunately, the same two-standard approach carried over to 6.5 Grendel ARs, which is why I've never tried that cartridge. Talked to a guy at a gunshow who had two used 6.5 AR barrels for sale, and he didn't know if they were Type 1 or Type 2, and didn't even know there were competing 'standards'. Might explain why his ARs weren't running right & he was selling the parts.)

Some folks claim the 7.62x39 is an inaccurate cartridge, usually because they shot some bargain basement milsurp ammo through a Combloc rifle that was built by slave labor, and couldn't do better than 4"-8" at 100 yards. Kind of funny, when you think about it!

As always IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, etc.

I had plans to build an AR/AK hybrid in x39, but when the ammo shot up in price due to sanctions the bloom was off that rose. Can do pretty much the same with the 300 BLK

I've got several rifles chambered for the 7.62x39, really do like the round and most guns chambered for it if you realize the limitations of each one. This AR I built is very accurate with hand loaded ammo. The weak link to the round in AR platforms seemed to always be the Magazines. I had an early Colt that never would run right. This one runs without a hitch!
