I hope you can get your buddy interested in doing something you both enjoy, for both of your sakes. I lost two of my shooting buddies and best friends several years ago and know how much that hurts. Real pals are hard to replace. I wish you good luck and hopefully success.
That is very true as real pals are far and few between for sure, and when they are gone, it is not good.....I think his shooting days are done, from what I see now, but a main reason of starting this thread was to remind folks that if they have a "good shooting buddy", to enjoy it and have a good and safe time, to keep it going for as long as possible. We have to be thankful for what we have in life. Our families and our health.

Our neighbor for 30 years had to get a Cochlear implant, he says that he got tired of reading lips.
Hearing aids of all types give folks the change to hear again but they often bring terrible side effects.
Like amplified (unwanted) back ground noise.

My neighbors says that he can no longer listen to music.
My wife has also lost a moderate amount of hearing. Low playing music is just a noisy nuisance to her. But once I turn it up she says that it's too loud and disturbing to her. She hates back ground music on TV shows. Neither of us have been shooting in a while but I bought noise cancelling headphones and we do have ear plugs.

I had a couple stop cold when it came to shooting. One was years ago and it was because his girlfriend (now wife of many years) is very liberal and despised guns, hunting, etc...he chose her over not just shooting/hunting but over his way of life.

The other recently never wanted to go, always had something else to do he said. Turned out he had become a bit financially strained and ammo was beyond his means. He won't take charity, not even a box or two of reloads. I'd gladly pay for a couple boxes of ammo for him, but it's a pride thing I believe.

Yeah, looks like you lost a couple yourself......one really doesn't know exactly what another person is thinking a lot of the time. The second guy you spoke of could be a pride thing....the first guy, letting his girlfriend/wife stop him from liking guns or shooting??? That's on him. He should stand up for what he wants to do. Sure, cut down a bit and spend time with the woman, but to drop guns and shooting altogether, that's on him...To make her happy, stop hunting altogether, but you would think he would just like to do some target shooting sometime...... Personally, I have never been a hunter, but I love to shoot targets, and I would be darned if I listened to a woman telling me I couldn't go.....Stand up for yourself, man!

You were very lucky to have a shooting buddy for all those years. I've never had one and if someone does go with me to the range it's usually my wife and granddaughter. It's a lot of fun going with them but a shooting buddy would have been nice too. Just be glad you had him for all those years.

That one of the things I miss most is hearing the music

Yes, Oakhurst is a very nice community. It has some nice restaurants. I think the best is The Elderberry House. Absolutely beautiful. Also "Ducey's on the Lake" in The Pines Resort right on Bass Lake, is also very beautiful....The comedian John Candy made his last movie there. The filmed a lot of the movie at the Ducey's and around the Pines Resort area. We went there a couple of times, but it's a long drive from here. Candy was only 42, I think, when he died. He always made me laugh. 42, same as Elvis.

I lost much of my hearing about 11 years ago from bear hunting with a magnum handgun. It was so demoralizing that I didn't shoot for a couple years except for a couple rounds during hunting season. Then I got over it and got back into it. Maybe your friend will too.

I have much more than moderate hearing loss, and have been wearing hearing aids for at least 12 years now. Due to my location I shoot at (loud) indoor ranges. I go early in the middle of the week (less people). I don't wear them shooting and double up with foam plugs and muffs. It's not bad at all unless there's an AR15 next lane over. Maybe your friend could try that and not even shoot the first few times going. At least you would still have each other's company during the drive to and from.

Well there is always a possibility of that, but I'm not really counting on it. But who knows.....so you shot beat with a magnum handgun. What was the biggest bear you got? I guess you were using a 44 Magnum ? Just wondering as they are loud.

Well, I don't think he wants to be anywhere near the range. I haven't been to an indoor range in quite a few years now. I am a member of a very nice private outdoor range. Me neighbor gave up his membership about 3 years ago. We still went as everyone kind of knew us and he was my guest anyway....the last indoor range was when my good friend had a nice gun shop and a shooting range down in the basement. It was great. I would reserve a time and a day and take my Boy Scout Troop there with the Asst. Scoutmasters and a couple of dads That was a lot of fun having the boys shoot their 22's. My friend, God Bless him, never charged us a dime all of those years. Plus the boys used his eye and ear protection and he gave them targets !!! He was a great guy and friend. He had to close up his shop a few years ago as he got sick. The place is empty now and no longer a gun shop.

I agree. Seems to be shutting off suddenly. As we get older and start falling apart, reality sets in. Some carry on, others can't be who they used to be and pull away to themselves.
Some of us simply prefer peaceful solitude regardless of our age or health conditions. But others are envious, and often go out of their way to disturb us because they lead miserable lives, are never satisfied, and they don't want anyone else to be content with their orderly, and comfortable lives.

Personally, I'm a thoughtful, creative introvert and I have no desire to mix with supposedly 'nice' people that prove to have the minds of programmed children, and the conduct of incorrigible adolescents.

Due to the increasing number of these pathetic malcontents, and gossip mongers, locating in our neighborhood, our private suburban sanctuary (Literally an oasis from the madness surrounding us.) is virtually a fortress with stockade fences, security cameras, motion detectors, floods, and one-way window applications to help us maintain our security, privacy, and peace of mind that such stressful situations can eventually destroy.

Oh, and we still go shooting whenever we feel like it. ;)

(Forget about seeking help from lawyers, or LE. We've tried that. They will only get involved after the harassment and verbal threats erupt into physical violence.)
