A very good book on the subject is "The Modern Blacksmith", by Alexander Wegyers, hope I got that right. Very good info also on tempering and annealing. Jim

Great! Haven't fired up my forge for many years. Made some shoes and a few tools, but not at the skill level of those guys. The lock on the shoe grippers is to hold steady when placing the hot shoe on the hoof. It has to be steady as the shoe burns the hoof flat and proper angle and depth...
