For me, it was an M77 in a 358 Win. I've wanted one for years and felt fortunate to find one. It was a brand new Hawkeye in a stainless steel all weather model. I've got several rifles and it is my favorite caliber and rifle.
Nice find. 25-06 is one of my favorites as is the Ruger #1. The wood is really nice as well. The 4-digit serial number is an added plus! You did well. Congrats!!
I've owed Ruger hand guns for some time but I'm a recent Ruger rifle convert. Two years ago bought an M77 358 Win and it is one the few rifles own that I will not part with. I recently added a Ruger #1S in 45-70 Gov't. Again, it has the same Ruger durable, balanced feel. I would not hesitate...
I bought a M77 Hawkeye all weather 358 Win almost 2 years ago from CDNN. I have numerous rifles in calibers from 223 to 45-70 Gov't including a 9.3x62 and a 300 Win Mag. The 358 Win is probably my favorite. It is a hard-hitting round and is one of the easiest calibers to reload. Mine loves a...
I probably have 300+ rounds through my 358 Win Hawkeye and the bolt release does have just a bit of play however, when I cycle my bolt, it is still fairly tight. I wish it would loosen up a bit but, I guessing that when it does, the bolt release will also have more play as well. I don't know...
I reload and use 225 grain Partitions over a charge of 45.5 grains of TAC in my Ruger M77. This was the charge that gave me the most consistent groups with no signs of pressure. Before I began, I did email Ramshot and here was their response:
Tom,
We suggest the following.
Caliber: .358...
The NorthStar bullets were delivered today (quickly) and I have to say, the castings are clean and look good. The individual bullet weights are consistent (based a random check). I will be working up some loads this weekend…finally! Also, and the meplats were a bit wider than what I expected...
Any Ruger, thanks! They are located in N. Minnesota and I did go ahead and place an order. The company was very responsive and they have already shipped. I placed an order with another company (that will remain unnamed) over 3 weeks ago. They charged my credit card two weeks ago but I still...
I recently bought a Ruger #1 45-70 and I'm having a difficult time finding hard cast bullets that are in stock and ready for delivery. Has anyone tried NorthStar hard cast bullets? Although the meplat is a bit smaller than I wanted, they certainly look like a decent bullet.
I've had this problem with some of my hand loads (358 Win) where I've purposely tried to stretch the COAL to get closer to the lands, but I've never had a problem with factory ammo. I would try some different factory ammo just to make sure that the ammo you're trying to chamber is not the problem.
Very nice! I really like the wood. I'm also a new member that has been bitten by the No. 1 bug. I ordered a 1S in 45-70 which should be in later this week. I will be reloading using hard cast bullets (boolits), which will also be a first. Can't wait to get it in and start working up loads...
