Military ammo in 30 m1 blackhawk

Check your barrel/cylinder gap. I had one .30 carbine Ruger that had a .010" gap and it would spit to the side hard enough to blow a zippered pistol pouch clear off the shooting bench! Ruger fixed it free, but it was an old model and they converted it. They sent the old parts back, though...

    When Brass needs trimmed?

I need to add a caveat to my original statement. Rimless calibers used in revolvers - those which headspace on the case mouth - definitely need trimming. I found this with three different .30 carbine Blackhawks. If the cases were a bit too long, they would not eject and sometimes would tie up...

Mrs. Cap'n would raise them for food. Never could understand eatin' the little guys, but she loves them.

45 Colt loads....wonder what ol' Matt Dillon used??

Wyandot - your are a veritable fountain of wisdom and knowledge! I had (wrongly) thought that they called them 5-in-1 blanks because each one would fire 5 times, giving a six-shooter a capacity of going BANG 30 times before requiring reloading!

Hey Jim ........ I guess there's 'real' loads and then there's 'reel' loads! :D

    Magnum primers for .40 S&W?

Thanks. We are aware of those problems and he wants to try plated cast boolits. We will use light loads and discretion, inspecting often for any Lead (or plating) deposits. We would use jacketed bullets, but there are none available here or online. He has a Wolf 9mm barrel on order, delivery...

    Magnum primers for .40 S&W?

I hear ya. He just told me he ordered a thousand small primers from Tennessee for $75 + $15 shipping. It's his money. BTW, I bought him a set of dies from Dillon for $65. They came in yesterday and I am seriously impressed! They have come up with some impressive improvements since I last bought...

    Magnum primers for .40 S&W?

I've no experience with this cartridge. A non-reloader friend is going to be using my press and "expertise" to learn the craft and using this shell. With the dearth of small pistol primers and the glut (around here) of small pistol magnum primers, I'm wondering if they would be suitable to work...

45Colt, 230gr Lead, and Green Dot

Thanks for this thread! While I don't have a .45 Colt, when I went to the LGS today, one of the few cans of powder on his shelf was Green Dot. I snapped it up at $20! Because of this thread, I knew it would work with several of my pistol calibers. Can't have too much information when you have...

what should I buy next for reloading equipment

If you think a progressive press might be somewhere down the road, you might want to get the measure you would use with the press. I haven't tried it, but I think my Dillon measure will fit in a single-stage press. You would need a cartridge-specific drop tube to actuate the measure. I dunno...

    Getting into casting?

A lead thermometer will come in handy. All the protective gear, of course. I remember the time my dad poured a ladle of hot lead inside his shoe. Not much fun. I always wear ankle boots with pants legs untucked. I use an old chair leg from a Early American chair as a beater bar for the sprue...

    trimming straight wall pistol cases

I'd like to present one huge exception - .30 carbine cases. I've owned and reloaded for three different .30 carbine Ruger revolvers. Without exception, if the cases are even a few thousandths long, they will jam in the cylinder and/or tie up the rotation. I've not owned any other revolver that...

    BRASS TO SELL

I think you wrote it is SPF. If so, and the deal falls through, please put my name in line. If not, I'll take it. Let me know and thanks.

    Dillon SD-B

I really like to use powder loads that fill the case (pretty full, anyway). I find I can glance at the powder - even in a .223 - as I rotate the shell plate. Also, I try to sit at the right angle and have my swing arm lamp set so that I can see through the gap between the frame and the primer...

Case trimmer problems - SOLVED! Thanks.

I got a jig built to set up my trimmer vertically in the drill press/mill. Still had trouble. Then I noticed my jig was not vertical. Phooey! I used to be able to build things and they'd turn out right. So, I shimmed the jig. The cases still popped out of the collet. So, I listened to...
