With 45 it is easy to see the diff when one looks at the cylinders.
Which would you like to shoot reeeely hot 45 in? Also there is a slight diff in the cylinder length.
The original 5 inch SR1911 in 45ACP of course came out in 2011 as I recall. I wanted one but they were hard to find. Finally found one in the fall of 2012 at an LGS for $599. Nice pistol.
They are nice and as far as I know all come with two cylinders. I bought a short barrel one after I bought a Ruger SR1911-10. It is where I shoot heavy 10mm loads.
I was impressed enough that I bought one with a longer barrel. Here with my 1976 Blackhawk in 357 mag.
I think with this...
RIAs would be what I would also suggest if you want a new pistol. Several years ago a friend bet me a nice steak dinner I could not find any Colt 1911 I would want to own in a gun store for less than $500. This took me to many gun stores I had not been in before and several I am not ever going...
They are nice. I saw a 45/45ACP convertible in a LGS years ago and had to have it.
Then a couple years ago a shorter one in the same LGS.
My thumb is O.K. with the hammer.
When I was trying to sell my Kimber Target Elite II to a friend he wondered about the conversion and would it work for pests on his ranch. I put it on and shot at just over 20 yards holding the pistol with two hands at my "high class" target using CCI HP ammo as I recall.
Now my Kimber unit...
I am not sure what "covid" things Ruger is doing at their manufacturing plant but I know gun buying has sort of gone insane around where I am. Having been in the puter world I know one can not triple production in a week or two. So production is the same and demand went through the roof.
Although Brownell is out right now there is a spring tester out there if you reeeeely want to know.

Sadly Colt is putting them outside on the frame; at least on the new Python I looked at. Now Colt has been putting them on the frame under the MSH on their 1911s for years; at least since 2015. The serial number is also there for all to read.
Not 100% on target but I was comparing my 357 Blackhawk (top) I bought new in 1976 with my new 2017 Blackhawk in 10mm/40S&W. It looks to me like at least a little more time was put into these in the old days finishing the metal of some small parts.
I have a model 00659. I bought it new in 2003 but the fired case dates it to 2002 production. It is under my 1977 Single Six Convertible in the picture below.
