How to hot blue, for those that want to know

In general there is very little difference. Should you invest in brand name products? Everyone's situation and goals are different. I can tell you that I spent many hours and enough money experimenting with this that the lesson will never be forgotten. Do I regret it? No, I enjoyed every minute...

How to hot blue, for those that want to know

Bluing will not change the level of polish at all. It also will not improve or hide any imperfections in anyway. After bluing it will look exactly as it did before except it will be blue/black.

How to hot blue, for those that want to know

I figured out how to get it to 295 deg. On my first try I added too much water so the next batch I mixed up I only added enough water to dissolve the chemicals. It still took a little while but as the water boils off the temp of the solution increases. It worked great with one exception, the...

    SS Cylinder ??

There is a recessed groove all the way around on the LR cylinders. The mag cylinders have a flat surface. I had to find some pictures of both, now it makes sense. Of course after I started wondering and looking the mag cylinder is also machined different in the chamber. It would have been too...

    SS Cylinder ??

No prefix, 360*** and the engraved 3 digits on the mag cylinder do match. I should have known it wasn't a LR cylinder.....must be the mad cow disease! Thanks! Denny Crane

    SS Cylinder ??

When I bought it I didn't know if it had been a convertable but if so I figured the mag cyl was the one missing. I knew the mag cylinders had the last three digits on them but I guess I thought the LR cylinders also had them? I would buy the one on GB because it is close enough to home to pick...

    SS Cylinder ??

I bought an OM SS (1964) a couple of months ago in near new condition but no box and it only had one cylinder. The frame says .22 Cal. I ASSumed the cylinder was a LR but when it split some cases I started checking and now I am fairly sure it is a Mag cylinder. It has the last 3 digits of the...

How to hot blue, for those that want to know

I am going to give this mixture a try. Just a small amount to experiment with until I am confident enough to try it with any real parts. I have to ask? How do you heat the liquid to 295 deg in an open container? The chemicals will alter the boiling point but I doubt it is even close to 295...
