    Scopes

I have scoped everything, even a few handguns. When your eyes go you need to do what you need to do.

    Cleaning game...

I really don't get the negative comments. I don't see a ferret. I do see caribou feet. That kid isn't traumatized. That is normal for those of us who subsist on wildlife. And actually that kid will be more mentally balanced than those who are making the negative comments. One thing I wouldn't...

I'm an 80 year young new member.

My son really likes his Walther CCP M2. He tried several different guns before his made his decision. I bought one of his rejects. A Springfield XDS. I really liked that gun. It was very accurate, but it was a 40 S&W.

Best gun find of the year???

My find for the year was a pair or Ruger vaqueros. 5.5" stainless in 44 mag. They are in great shape. Being used by a cowboy action shooter. I called Ruger and got two new front sight blades and then made a sight jig to hold them while I silver soldered them in.

    Ridiculousness I've seen/heard

A couple of weeks ago I was hunting antelope. My second tag for the year. I belly crawled over 200 yards to get closer. I was still 410 yards away. I probably could have made the shot, but I didn't want to chance it with unknown wind drift. I crawled back out. As I was leaving the ranch a...

MADE A SIGHT JIG AND SOLDERED ON SIGHT-WHAT KIND OF FINISH FOR STAINLESS VAQUERO

I used the buffing wheel lightly and it turned out real well. But I'm not much for highly polished guns. I might just scotchbrite it.

MADE A SIGHT JIG AND SOLDERED ON SIGHT-WHAT KIND OF FINISH FOR STAINLESS VAQUERO

No i didn't use any heat sink paste. Very little heat was needed and the jig base soaked up any heat going down the barrel. That is why there is only discoloration around the sight.

MADE A SIGHT JIG AND SOLDERED ON SIGHT-WHAT KIND OF FINISH FOR STAINLESS VAQUERO

Thanks for the info. I will give it a try and see how I like it. I can always go with the scotchbrite if i change my mind.

MADE A SIGHT JIG AND SOLDERED ON SIGHT-WHAT KIND OF FINISH FOR STAINLESS VAQUERO

It is a polished finished. ha ha ha yeah I've already taken care of the solder on the sight blades. I've never had such a difficult time tinning something. The solder wouldn't take then it went all over. One of the vaqueros the blade dropped right into place when the heat was applied. The other...

MADE A SIGHT JIG AND SOLDERED ON SIGHT-WHAT KIND OF FINISH FOR STAINLESS VAQUERO

Here are two more pics of how I used it. I also added a barrel clamp to my jig to hold the barrel. The Brownell's jig didn't have that. As you can see the barrel is discolored from the heat. How to refinish it is my next question.

MADE A SIGHT JIG AND SOLDERED ON SIGHT-WHAT KIND OF FINISH FOR STAINLESS VAQUERO

I posted a thread a while back and showed two stainless 44 mag. Vaqueros I bought with the filed down sights. I received new sight blades from Ruger. I made a sight jig. Just making spare time to do it was the hardest part. The Brownell's jig that I copied with improvements turned out well. I...
