Reading this post tells me you are getting somewhere between a 2-to-3 thousandths bump-back on your fired cases right now.
That amount of bump is considered "perfect" for reloading ammo for your chamber. I only bump-back .002 on my bolt actions to get very accurate ammo, and the...
I totally agree with woodperson, and see what Redding has to say first.
I would always try another brand of the same caliber die/shell holder before sending the gun back in, if Redding doesn't give you advice which solves the problem, or offer you a solution of a shorter die of a...
One last thing I forgot..... don't buy a set of the Redding competition shell holders.... they are from .002 to .010 thicker than a normal shell holder, meaning they allow you to bump less-than , not bump more-than a normal shell holder. This would just make your perceived problem worse, not...
ps: your post says you bought a "new" set of dies from redding.... was the old set of dies and/or old shell holder giving you no problems on case size?
I wouldn't recommend grinding dies and shell holders "down" to fix your problem, until you make sure your headspace in your rifle is within Saami specs, AND the die and shell holder you are using are also within-specs....
If rifle chamber, shell holder and die are all within spec, it will...
I recommend you don't rush to a conclusion of the size you want your cylinder throats to be, or what size your lead bullet diameter should be until you slug your bore and find out what the maximum groove diameter is in your barrel.
Reason is, the bullets you shoot should be at least a 1 or 2...
SAAMI bore diameter is .346” allows up to .350” max
SAAMI groove diameter is .355” allows up to .359” max
If you slugged your 357, did groove diameter stay within that range of .355 to .359”, and what did you find?
Thanks friends.
(Wondering if Ruger stays pretty tight on lower dimensions, or...
I am going to get a sample pack of double end wadcutters from Missouri bullets. (PPC #2 Hi-Tek coated)
(They are .358 diameter, 148 grain BHN 12 for PPC velocity)
My question is what is the most appropriate way to seat and crimp?
My internet explorations show people doing 3 different methods...
Norseman, thanks much for your direction... I went to Starline's site and found the article on lead bullets written by Mike Venturino.
Mike summed it up perfectly, here's what Mike wrote, directly: (am showing just the obturation-part, below)
On the flip side revolver bullets need to obturate...
Just trying to educate myself on shooting lead 158gr swc's in my two GP100's:
When you have a load that is not too-low in max pressure for the BHN you are shooting, will a bullet start obturating right in the cylinder throat, or does obturation only happen when the bullet has passed into the...
Hi friends.
Alliant 2400 is not very-available nowadays....
What alternate powder have you used that is similar in results and excellent in metering through a powder measure?
Thanks in advance for your advice, and Merry Christmas to you!!
This last week I just tested this 180 grain Pugnose in my 357.
Was loaded with 2400 powder at approx 1100 fps.
The load was very accurate and "felt" like it would have a very good kick to it.
Anybody using this bullet and can comment about it's field results?
Thanks,
Crab
