    Powder coated

I've pushed these 150 grain plain based powder coated to 2000 ft/sec out of my marlin with no leading. WW+enough tin for fill out. Baked powder coat at 425 for an hour and quenched only the base into ice water only deep enough to reach the lower crimp groove. The powder coating makes the...

Anybody tried Summers coated bullets yet?

You might want to see if the throats on your SP101 are too narrow and swaging down the bullets before they even hit the forcing cone. I've experimented with powder coating, and they seem to be comparable to traditional lube, but the fit is still the most important issue to prevent leadding.

    Remington Golden Bullets Rant

I've not had too much problems with GB's in the past, but the last batch I bought was about 7 years ago. Just finished out that pack with no problems. The Thunderbolts (picked up 1k of those last year because it's the first stuff I saw on the shelves locally in years.... CRAP CRAP CRAP. I've...

My first 10/22 build success and problems

I decided to build a bench rest and flat out fun paper puncher from scratch. I bought a cheap stainless 10/22 from big 5 and gutted it down to the receiver. I got all the parts from Tony Kidd, polished the inside of the receiver as the original action was absolutely gritty. Parts: 20"...

    Copper Plated 30-30 Bullets

It's an MP mold from this thread. MiHec had a few left last I heard. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?229973-MiHec-308-Hunting-Boolit-2-or-4-Cavity-Brass-Cramer-Rerun

Counterintuitive finding, question f experced rifle loaders

Rick, that actually makes sense, in the same way we deal with vibration in tennis and golf...ie tuning the club to the patients swing. You want the club head to be at the node of the wave. I never thought harmonics would come into play this much at a mere 50 yards. After I load up some more...

Counterintuitive finding, question f experced rifle loaders

For the 300 yard zero, the v-max is already zeroed. BC=.400 The e-tip is required here in the peoples republik of commifornia and it's BC is .403 so I was working up hand loads to try to match the v-max (I'll still use these for varmints because the ranches I shoot varmints are generally not...

Counterintuitive finding, question f experced rifle loaders

Ruger American 243. Loading 87 grain Hornay V-max at 3200fps Zeroed at 300 yards and hitting 1.3" high at 50 and 3.5 high at 100. Comparing factory loaded 90 grain accubond @ 3000fps, the accubond hit 2.5" high at 50 yards???? That makes no sense that the point of impact is higher for the...

    Copper Plated 30-30 Bullets

Also, you might try belling the case ever so slightly. I do this for cast, but it should help in not scraping copper off the bullet for your plated boolits.

    Copper Plated 30-30 Bullets

Your bullets are not going to fly apart at any 30-30 velocity. If you size your bullets properly they will not lead your barrel either. My lube is simply beeswax, enough vaseline to make it flow through the lube sizer, and Johnson's Paste Wax to leave the bore as smooth as a baby's butt. I'm...

    .357 self defense ammo

Bless your heart, Jimbo. Wolfsongs advise "Don't over-analyze your needs" makes no implication of any police department being wrong about their ammo choices. With full power .357 there is sufficient power that ANY premium bullet (Gold Dot, HST, Hydra Shok, PDX, SXT, XTP), and even older SJHP...

2 cast boolit hunting loads for 30-30 leverevolution powder

Since California is banning lead, I decided to go hunting with cast boolits this season...screw your condor you bureaucratic peter puffers. Worked up some loads and tested them into rubber mulch. I used Larry Gibson's work with Leverevolution powder in 30-30 as a starting point to work up...

    Looking at 30-30

I like the 30-30, and just picked up a Marlin 30-30 from the gun store/range that just moved in across the street from my office. (I hope I don't need to go to Betty Ford clinic as a result of this move) Cast boolits shoot quite well in this caliber, and it's easy to hand load.
