    Ruger No. 3 in 223

There are reprints of the manual for the #3 on E-bay. Nor sure when Ruger dropped the #3 but if they still had receivers on hand they probably completed and sold them even if no longer cataloged. Wish they would make another run but with a plain un-checkered plain walnut butt stock like the #1.

    How helicopters fly

In the Army flew in Hueys, Blackhawks and CH 47s. Had a bad experience in a CH 47 that resulted in compressed discs in my lower back and neck and as a consequence am almost daily reminded of that ride. Somewhat soured me on taking helicopter rides. OTOH the disability check and full medical...

    Powder for

Never loaded 45 Colt but put a lot of 250 gr cast downrange in a S&W 29. Standard load for me was 9.0 gr Unique which is midway between start and max loads listed in the old Lyman 45th Edition. A quick check show that load is midway also n the 45 Colt with 255 gr cast. Note this is with lead...

What is your minimum comfort zone for brass stock?

I keep a few hundred for each of my rifles, maybe 800 or so for my 38 and probably 3K for my 45 ACP. Also have enough powder and primers to load what I need. The only reason I have so much 45 is people left it on the range and I couldn't leave it. For the 45 have about 1K of the SP brass in...

    Case trimming

Usually trim to the listed trim to length but don't worry if it comes up a little shorter as I don't crimp either cast or jacketed rifle bullets. All my rifles are either single shot or bolt actions, if I had a lever action with a tube magazine that required crimping it would be a different...

.22 Mk 3 Target - rear sight walking

The Numrich schematic for the MK III shows a set screw for the rear sight base. Might require a bit of disassembly to access it.

How much was your first house?

1991: First house we bought since I was in the Army and this was our retirement home. About 3200 sq ft living space with five bedrooms, master with en-suite on first floor, second floor with full bath and three double bedrooms and a small single. Big kitchen, dining room, living room, office...

    Ruger no1 safety mod???

Had a similar problem with safety on my #3. The problem was the spring that tensions the safety, a new spring fixed the issue.

    Ignorance at a gun show

The seller in the OP sounds like he's related to the guy who tried to sell me a Swedish Lahti as a Luger.

    Strange odor

Worked as a locator for about 20 years, a lot of it for gas companies and the map of known and unrepaired shocks me, The gas companies we worked for would be on site quickly and make the necessary repairs. A quick public service message: Before you dig call 811, don't depend on the land...

    Dead and Dying Cartridges...

For those of us who reload, and particularly for those of us who reload and cast our own bullets no cartridge really dies until brass, or donor cases that can be reformed, disappears. For those who do not reload once ammo production ceases the cartridge is effectively dead.

The Army is getting a new tank

Tubes on the front are launchers for red phosphorus screening smoke grenades.

    New internet service

Here in Eastern KY choices were limited as to what you could get, and none were particularly good and all were pricey. About two years ago Spectrum bought out the local internet operation and began offering internet, cell service and television. Switched everything over to Spectrum and the...

    Gas check question.

Ditto on Sage checks. If you are already sizing and lubing you don't need any special equipment for gas checks.

    Bending No 3 lever

UPDATE: Worked up my courage and went at it. Heated the portion I wanted to bend to cherry red in dim light and bent away. Actually bent easier than I expected and although it was not quite perfect it was about as good as I cared to try. Nothing broke but a small crack appeared that I didn't...
