    .357 Maximum

RL-7 will burn and accelerate the bullet for the duration of rifle barrel travel. Out of the 10” Contender barrel, you would likely have unburned powder. IMR 4227 is much faster. The pressure peak was reached when the bullet was only partially down the barrel. As pressure decreases due to...

    Crimp ?

If you do not trim all cases to same length, you will eventually have longer cases shaving lead or copper as you seat and crimp in the same operation. Not only does it make for dirty ammo in your cylinder, it can also raise pressure due to restricting case expansion upon firing. As stated...

Super Blackhawk hammer in Blackhawk revolver?

You should also check the trigger to hammer sear engagement. Ruger, and most good smiths, use a test fixture to check this engagement. Some folks use the "push-off" method of checking the gap. I like to use a little dykem or grease to double check this engagement as I am doing the initial...

How many rounds to lap SS barrel

My experience has been to shoot 3-5 shots and measure. Soft round balls and wooden dowels are cheap. Barrels are not. Steve :)

    Single Seven 327 Issue

To clarify, you are ejecting spent brass, and the piece of brass coming out of one of the seven chambers rubs against the frame? IF this is the case, and if this were mine, it would be headed back to Ruger ASAP. Mark the chamber, and ensure at least 5 random brass all rub. If your cylinder...

SOLD Liberty KNR4 (Letters as KNR6) Bisley Hammer Ivoroid

I don't have any money to buy it.... :( but I did drool all over the post and stole a copy of the photos to put in my Ruger revolver file. That is one of the sweetest Rugers I have seen in a while. Much better than my recently rebuilt.....pig..... Someone should snap that up before I...

Model 77 50 year anniversary model?

I have many Liberty models, but no anniversary models. Look thru a few 100 in a weekend and you will understand why. My older Rugers are tight, smooth, and can shoot. Some of my newer ones gather dust.... 250-3000 would be nice, but I would pass and grab a tang safety 257 Bob over it any day...

    .41 mag

Welcome to the club. I am a newbie myself. Only been a member for about 10 years and just on my 3rd 41, but I am sure there are more to come. First one I got was my Ruger Blackhawk. Search for, and found, an Ideal mold for it. Shot several thousand rounds and was happy as a clam. Purchased...

    question about primers

Primers are like powders. Some are hot. Some are cold. Each of us have our favorite. Some work better in a recipe over another. When the manufacturers run ballistics in their laboratories, they will use a preferred case, primer, and powder combinations and give us their data. Very rarely...

    Lil-gun....

Phffffttttttt.....so much BS.....Try to find a Super Blackhawk in 357 Max with flame cutting and throat erosion. They were notorious for it, remember? Ha. I have one with many 1000s of rounds thru it without even a mark in the top strap. I have also never see a gun that was destroyed by Lil...

    45/70 Split Case Mystery Solved

Did you full length size the case? Carbide die? Long straight wall cases have a tendency to get the "Coke bottle" effect when full length sizing. Hold one up and look at the case. See a )( kind of look? Load with black powder, add a wad, then seat the bullet, and when you crimp, I will...

    Accurate .38 special loads?

You didn't mention gun or barrel length. I have several 38 loads that have done well for me. 158SWC over 5.0 Unique, 125 jacketed HP over AA#5. This last load is one I used for my daughters when they learned to shoot the .357. Also loaded up a box for my dad when he purchased a Taurus 38...

    Measuring my cylinders

Is the reamer and pilot pack the better way to go over the hone? I have priced the hones at about $27 each and the reamer and pilots close to $100 each. I have about 10 calibers to do so I want to choose wisely. I got a full set of gage pins so that was the start.....now for the next baby...

    upgrade a Ruger 77 MK11 stock

I have restocked a couple of M77s. Inletting for the tang safety is best left to an experienced stock maker. Mine came out just ok. When I did one for a buddy, I spent every evening for over a week inletting the tang area to make a perfect fit. Time consuming, but worth it in the end. Steve :)
