So how long has Ruger been putting dot matrix codes in concealed places on their firearms? I recently swapped grip panels on my 06718 SR1911. High on the right side but still under the panel was what looked like a QR code. I scanned it with the QR reader on my phone. It determined it was a dot matrix code, read it and the result was the pistol's serial number.

Sorry if this is a dupe, but I searched the best I could.

There on a SR1911-10 I bought new in the fall of 2017 and not there on a SR1911-CMD I bought new in 2015.

I could live with it if it were out of sight under the grips. However, at least one of the new Colts has it on the outside of the frame in plain sight. That would be a deal breaker for me, looks matter, that ruins the look of the gun for me.

Sadly Colt is putting them outside on the frame; at least on the new Python I looked at. Now Colt has been putting them on the frame under the MSH on their 1911s for years; at least since 2015. The serial number is also there for all to read.
