My little brother just bought a new 9.5 Inch 44 Magnum Super RedHawk. The first thing I noticed was the Quick Change front sight was not used on this revolver. NOT IMPRESSED!!
I have owned 4 Super RedHawks so far, and all had the Quick Change front sight. I changed out all 4 for a Marble Green Fiber Optic front sight for a back-up to my UltraDot optical sights first thing.

It is a wonder that we had not ordered a Marble front sight for this one before we picked it up.

Just wondering if anyone had any idea what is up with this change? As far as I am concerned the Quick Change front sight is one of the better features of a GP100 and Super RedHawk.

I'm okay with one front sight, not with the other. Have SRH in 44RM Alaskan, and a 7.5" 480 Ruger. Note in picture below how the 480 came with the reddish front sight, the Alaskan with the black. The Alaskan is much easier to see, while the reddish sight practically disappears while aiming. Both were purchased new with no modifications. If anyone has suggestions for "ideal" SRH sights I'd sure be interested in hearing them.

And also...
Does Ruger make ANY attempt at aligning sights before shipping? I ask because both, and especially the 7.5", came from the factory with severely misaligned sights. The 7.5" was so bad that I had to start out six feet from the target just to see where the hell it was hitting, and even then it was impacting 4 inches low! It's as if a monkey was setting these sights at the Ruger factory...

Weird, of all the Ruger revolvers I've had (and that's quite a few) not one has had an issue with the front sight. My only current DA is a .480 SRH that has the sight Fujicon has and I can see the red insert easily. Go figure :)

This thread is a bit more than a year old.

But the Op,, asked WHY Ruger changed the front sight design.

Simple. Expense cutting. Most,, and I'll say it again,, MOST people do not change a front sight. I'm talking about the larger market share of people,, & not the serious Ruger folks around here.

Ruger used to offer a set of (4) different colored inserts for the Redhawk line. VERY slow selling item,, BECAUSE people didn't change the front sight.

More serious shooters do things to make their gun fit their needs & often use them a lot more than the average person. As such,, a swappable front sight is a good option.

The market is what drives the changes.

I've been characterized by my family as a conservative, but apparently, I'm left of center...

This thread is over a DECADE old …. Heck the OP hasn't signed on for 3 years LOL.

I think back when this thread was new was about the time they switch to the different front site.
