I need to restock my pepper spray, who is making the best product, or does it really matter?
Um....you called? Actually a non-lethal defenses nerd. Anyway:Do you think anyone will confess to being a pepper spray nerd?
That could, in some jurisdictions, open you up to assault with a deadly weapon (unlike capsaicin, it is a nerve poison!)Or you could use wasp and hornet spray. Shoots 20-30 feet and the baddy doesn't care about anything but to get the stuff off his face

Good article explaining the differences:
Bear Spray vs. Pepper Spray: Which Is The Best For Self Defense?
Pepper spray is an excellent self-defense weapon. It’s light, compact, easy to use, and highly effective. Despite those benefits, statistics suggest that more people are using bear spray instead of pepper spray for self-defense. Lastwww.primalsurvivor.net
And....nope. Like the Taser, the gun itself is worth about 5 bucks, and one pays hundreds. One simply overpays for Taser's proprietary Power/projection/dart tech. With the above it's even more over-payment because the CO2 and pepper/rubber ball ammo ( both could actually be used) aren't proprietary, so the initial cost is simply ridiculous. Then there is effectiveness. If pepper ball, do you aim for the face? If you do and damage is done by the outer part to the face are you liable? Depends on the state, of course. If aimed elsewhere, how effective will a pepper ball be? I admit that I have never used one, though I have a few that fit a paint ball gun. If effective elsewhere, would someone educate me further? One of the guys on the safety team at my church showed me a links to that pistol a few weeks ago and I had meant to look it up for got distracted... I think it is a viable option and might be as good if not better than a lot of spray options. I might jus get one.

I don't believe that considering all possible options to be nerdy so information is always a good thing.Do you think anyone will confess to being a pepper spray nerd?
Testing will be near impossible, I think. You can check accuracy and range, but how does one check the pepper dispersal? If not a face shot I just can't figure out how it could be effective. Since it's supposed to be a non-lethal weapon, do we really want to shoot any projectile into someone's face? That brings up the liability again. I dunno......You make good arguments Joe Chartreuse, the issue is that one will never know until the devise is actually used... does not matter if it is pepper spray of some kind , this Byrna pistol with either of the projectiles or even a real pistol.... kind of like the 'debate' in the lounge over 357 Mag vs 10mm.
And I agree with WendyZXZ except we really aught to accept the fact that we are Gun Nerds. I'm proud to be one.... but then I've actually been a nerd all my life it only took me about 60 years to realize it.
when I first looked at this Byrna pistol and realized it ran on CO2 I was thinking that is really dumb because they always loose the propellant over time... then the first thing I saw when I did the research was that the canister is not punctured until the trigger is pulled the first time. Now that is smart. I've spent the $500, for the smaller less powerful model, so the question is what do I do to check it out and do a review?
How about a crotch shot. I've gotten tea tree shampoo down there and that will light you up.Testing will be near impossible, I think.
