I'm Bob, from Nevada, and I am the proud new owner of a GP100 Model 1720 chambered in .357 magnum. It's nice to be here!
This is only my second full-size revolver. The first is my 111-year-old Colt Bisley, chambered in .32-20.

I have a few questions:

  • The serial number database says my model 1720 was manufactured in 1994, but for a few minor scratches on the cylinder, it looks almost new.
  • The gun appears to have a fixed front sight. Is there any way to replace it with a tritium sight?
  • What load would you suggest for black bear protection?
Thank you!

Yes, DobeGrant is correct. The front sight is held by a small cross pin and it can be replaced, but it's not necessarily a drop-in type replacement. Typically the replacement front sight may need fitting, and a hole for the pin drilled in it once it's installed in the gun. The hole drilling being the exciting part. You don't want to let the tiny drill bit get off track.

i tried a big dot trit on one of my gp100s, yes it took fitting and drilling, after all that , went back to original, painted it orange, all good. No scientific advice on woods carry loads, i use various factory 158 gr jacketed soft point
