1969,, I was officially given a hand-me-down single-shot .22 rifle. A Sears model, bolt action. Burned a LOT of ammo through it over many years. It's still here.

Remington wing master 20ga lightweight youth. Poppa put it on layaway when I was born. Took him a year of not eating lunch most days to get it out. I'm nearly 51 now, so 50 years.
I had a piece added to lengthen the stock after I got older. I still use it to squirrel hunt.

The one I've owned the longest is the first one I bought when I was 18 back in 1966. Nothing special bought it from my cousin and we used to shoot crows with it down at the creek. That's all parking lot now for a strip mall. 12 gauge single shot Stevens model 94 don't know how many rounds have been through it, the barrels a little short, but just barely legal.

I was not a gun person, but owned a small handgun that I had never fired, acquired from a friend for almost nothing in the 1970's. It was stolen from my home during a burglary in 1985. That incident, coming home to find the house had been broken into and robbed, woke me up to the reality of city crime, so I went out the next morning and bought a new gun for myself. It was a S&W Model 19, nickel, 4 inch barrel 357 Magnum. For years it was my only gun, and I still own it now 39 years later. It will never be sold as it is the only one of my guns that any of my grown kids has expressed a desire for once I am gone. It will go to my youngest son. Still a beautiful, classic gun that I would trust my life with.

Marlin 22 handed down to me when I was 8 50 some years ago. I was the Third Generation to have it. Deciding who gets it next. Which will be the 4th or fifth. I have my old 410 Monkey Wards single shot that I got around the same time in the back of one of the safes. My nephew let it rust all to crap and I have to get around to restoring it.

The oldest gun in my possession is my great grandfather's 1880's Belgian-made 16 ga muzzle loading percussion cap SxS hammer gun. (Now a wall hanger). The oldest gun I own is a 12 ga. Marlin Model 90DT made in 1950 that my dad bought used for me in 1957 when I was 14. (67 years). He shortened the stock and added a recoil pad to fit me. Later, he lengthened the stock by adding a piece cut from another old stock when I got bigger.

I remember as a young child, going over to my dad's friends shop, who showed my father a brand new Ruger 10-22 rifle, that just came out. He told dad, this would be the best selling 22 ever! It was a 4 digit serial number (which I still remember) I learned to shoot with that gun, I taught my kids to shoot that gun, now grands are just getting there.

I believe that rifle was born about 1964, so I've had it for 60 years. Hopefully 10-20 more……
