My 39a is a 1952 model. One screw in top of receiver but its for securing cartridg guide. The way the receiver curves upward i will need to rework a rail or something.looks like i will only get 2 screws in the rail and back towards the stock. Will have to have 2 screw holes d&t. Any i deas? Anyone familiar with yhis model

1952 was when a change came about. Its not D&T
It has one d&t hole in top and thats for the screw that holds the cartridge guide.

Its got a peep but my eyes are not to good. I shot yesterday at 20 yards and had 4 shots touching #5 almost. I can make a bracket/mount to mount where the peep is and secure my scope rail to it and put a layer of something under it as to not scratch up receiver. Got it designed in my head. Now its either aluminum or steel. I can polish and blue the steel.
Never tried blacking aluminum.

Weaver used to make side mounts for leaver rifles. Do some research on them. BTW, I'm older than your 39A and use peep sights on several rifles. I killed a mule at a little over 150 yards with a 45/70 and peep sights. All it takes is practice.

Its ur rifle, do with it what you want. If it was mine and I wanted a scope, it would get a scope. Its yours for you to use and enjoy

Sell it to someone who can use and care for it properly. Plenty of newer ones ready to go the way you want. You'll only wreck any value it ever had to accomplish little to nothing.

so heres a couple pics. I know its not machine like most of you do but wait until i get it all filed and smoothed out. On the left side the peep sight will go and this bracket will mount using factory holes which is where the peep sight is mounted. On the other side you only see the thickness of the bracket. The rail will be mounted to the top rail of my bracket.

I know very little about your gun so this is mostly pulled out of my butt....
Guessing the top of the barrel has a dovetail cut for a sight?? Yes...ok.
You also have one or two screws in the side of the receiver to mount the
peep sight..yes?
If so a person could mill out two mounts, one at the rear sorta L shaped and
one located in the dovetail on the barrel and use these to attach the scope mounts.
If you had to pay a shop to build these you could just buy another rifle first, but it would
keep the old gun "stock" and some of the people in this thread wouldn't come to your house
and throw stones through your windows.
Myself, If I liked and was keeping the gun might be inclined to just drill and tap the receiver...
don't tell anybody!

My mount looks ok but im picky. Will probably make another. The 90 degree bend is rounded looking not a nice square look. If i dont get one made to suit me i will forget it.i dont have a mill or anything but i do have a nice drill press and nice cross type vice. Its kinda hard doing it by hand. Thanks guys. And im not drilling any holes. Its bracket or peep

New pics just waiting on a 6/48 tap so i can secure my homemade bracket to the top rail.
Again no holes drilled in receiver. What do you think? If i could blue/ black the bracket better. May take it off and spray with flat black.I amp putting masking tape on the back of bracket so not to scratch the receiver. Temporary......what would you use permanently between bracket and receiver? Ive been thinking duct tape sticky side to bracket. Non sticky against receiver.
Wish i had the tools and knew how to use mill , lathe and all that.
