takedown stock question

Got my takedown 10/22 and when I assembled it , the gap between the halves was not equal. It was narrower at the top. Did not effect operation but looked like it was wrong??? Anyone else had this experience

I don't see any function issue with mine...and the facing edges aren't exactly parallel...there remains a gap of maybe 3/16" all around. Haven't measured it, and it seems to be free-floating in the sense it doesn't touch or bind anything anywhere.
