    Ill fitting grips.

    Mine didn't come with the original grips. I DID find a pair of micarta/ivory grips in my drawer full of grips that fit quite well. I think I originally bought them for a stainless Vaquero about thirty years ago, so of course I have NO idea who made them.

    Fortunately, I have a machinist friend with a full set of pin gauges, so I can get a good measurement. Just wondered if the large throats are normal for Ruger.

    Gentlemen, For any of you with Ruger .44's, what are your cylinder throat measurements? I've got one that measures .432-.433". Is that pretty normal?

    They definitely are new Ruger grips going on 60's grip frames. At this point I'm just going to try to find some oversize ones and fit them myself. The grips are brand new from Ruger. From all the references I've seen, the grip frames are supposed to be the same from Old Model to New Model as...

    The grip frames themselves are fine. It's the grips that are undersized.

    I ordered Ruger grips from Ruger, and they fit just as badly as the aftermarket ones.

    I'm trying now to find some that are a bit oversized. These are undersized by close to an eighth inch on the front strap and t he back strap. They shouldn't be THAT far off.

    I've got two 1960's 3 screw revolvers with the XR3-Red grips frames. I've tried multiple grips that supposedly fit that frame, and none of them are close. Are they that different from the later ones?

    You can find plenty of barrels and cylinders on e-bay. I'd be more concerned about the conversion. Then again, plenty of hammers and triggers available, too.
