Ummm, about this GunBroker bidding........
It sounds like you have described a situation where the first bids were put in individually to try to determine the reserve- that would explain why the same bidder showed up 4 times in a row with a higher bid. Your bid would be 5th. If the other bidder then entered a maximum higher than yours...- Mike Mulligan

Need help with John Deere 317 lawn tractor. Mine broke down
No experience with a 317, but I have had hydro and other tractors- do take a look at Rick C's link, there is a page that indicates a knob needs to be turned to "free wheel" when pushing the tractor- otherwise your axles will act just as you describe.
