CCI lists their 40gr HP 22WMR muzzle velocity from a 6" barrel at 1425fps.
A 5.7x28 with a 40gr Federal American Eagle FMJ is listed @ 1655fps from a 4.8" barrel.
MidwayUSA lists the 5.7 velocity as 2250fps from the same barrel which is likely incorrect.
My original load for the purposes of self defense and to get the 180gr XTP to expand with my 3" barrel was 9.0gr of Unique getting 985fps.
At the time there was no data to support that load but later Sierra and a couple of others published data using up to 9.1gr.
My current load is a powder...
Bad part was, after the impact the B-47 was on approach to land at Hunter Field and the tower asked about the bombs location. The pilot radioed back "in the plane".
The tower waved off the plane and made them jettison it.
Over the usual approach to Hunter Field from the east, it was dropped in...
For what it's worth:
Speer #11 lists their #4453 with 11.6gr to 12.6gr (1199fps to 1271fps) of Unique with CCI 350 primers.
"loads are within the industry maximum pressure - 43,500 cup".
Test firearm was a 10" Dan Wesson.
No OAL listed.
Lyman 46th Edition lists the #4453 with 10.0gr to 12.2gr...
My 7mm Rem Mag drove me crazy for the most part of 2 years due to that very thing!
Convinced there was something wrong with the gun, I bought another new one and it also did it.
Oh, Barnes, Remington. Go to either of their sites and see who makes who.
I don’t have any of the articles or specific numbers as to velocity/twist rate/bullet type at hand but here goes.
A couple of years after the 7mm STW came out there were several complaints of certain bullets disintegrating before impact. Sure enough there was evidence of the bullets tearing...
Longer (heavier) bullets need a fast twist rate to stabilize but that same bullet in the same barrel will keyhole if the launch velocity is too low.
Fast twist rates using light bullets and high velocity can strip the rifling from the bullet.
You are going to lose launch velocity with that 10...
I need to take a picture of mine, now that (I think) I'm through with it.
300aac, 7 1/2" barrel, Ruger lower, Davidson Defense ambidextrous side charge upper, Nikon P223 3x scope, and 150gr Hornady RN #3035 @ 1500fps has become my latest favorite 100 yard firearm.
I ended up with a real nice Dan Wesson due to the last person shooting only 38spl and not cleaning the chambers.
Dang thing would not chamber 357, the seller did not disclose this to me. Apparently the reason for the low price.
After a good chamber brushing, zero problems.
Look on Youtube, Larry Potterfield of MidwayUSA does a good job with assembly.
A tool kit on my list to make my life easier is the Wheeler #952636 roll pin install tool kit, most important is the c-clamp looking thing in that kit which installs or removes roll pins. That clamp will prohibit...
These are 12"x12" pieces of 3/4" plywood with (stadium seating or kneeling pad) foam glued to them.
The lower portion has legs just tall enough to get the short ratcheting quick release clamp beneath it.
Toaster oven and temperature gun are also very helpful...
I'm getting 1130fps from a 6 1/2" barrel using 18.0gr of 2400 with powder coated Lee 452-255-RF (262gr actual).
Best I remember and depending on what book you look at, 18.0gr would place it near the upper safety pressure level of the clones and very low on the Contender pressure.
The 250gr...
