On this day in 1945, representatives from Nazi Germany signed surrender documents to Allied representatives to bring the War in Europe to a close. The War continued for a few more months in the Asia/Pacific theater. One of the greatest Wars, in scope, in history was shutting down.

"He who forgets history is doomed to repeat it." Never forget.

My brother, my sister, and the husbands of two of my sisters were World War II Veterans.

Sometimes it seems as if we really didn't learn anything from that war either. Not long after the war was over, the process of scaling down the military was started and has never really let up.

My Dad was a P-38 pilot in the Pacific, my favorite uncle was a Marine who made 2 landings. It's pretty easy to understand why that was called "The Greatest Generation".
