When returning a pistol for warrantee repair how much of your personal information is reasonable to HAVE to provide them? You are not buying it from them, they do not need to perform a background check before returning it. They are fixing and returning your property. Other than name and address what is reasonable?

What about refusing to return ship to a dealer even after being provided with a copy of the dealers valid FFL? Reasonable?

In this day and age of identify theft should you have to provide them with copies of your DL and all of your DOB and License #?

I have returned pistols to Smith & Wesson, Ruger and Taurus, non have demanded anything but name and address.

No this has nothing to do with Ruger. Ruger has been great when I needed repairs.

Any time I've returned firearms to any of the major manufactures all they needed was my name address, phone, RMA number a short narrative on why it's being returned. If it's not warranty work then they will probably want to know how it is going to be paid.

It was warrantee work... and that is all I have ever been asked prior to this one... who will remain nameless for the time being, but the were at best disingenuous, if not outright liars with their demands.

A firearm being shipped to a FFL or manufacturer to be worked on, by BATFE regulations can legally be shipped back to the person who shipped it. That said, there are some companies who will not do that and insist on sending it to a FFL. And they will not listen to any other information to the otherwise.

I understand that... and had provided them with my Dealers FFL before shipping my pistol out...after verifying BEFOREHAND it would be shipped back to that dealer. Then after receiving my pistol they demanded ALL of my personal information, or they would not repair it. I had provided them a redacted copy of my DL, with my vital information blocked out, but still showing my name and shipping address. They wanted my DOB and DL number too..This is my issue...no other manufacture has demanded this, no BATF regulation requires it, yet this company disingenuously tried to.

Aren't they required to return the gun to the same address it was shipped from?
They refused even though I sent them a copy of my DL verifying my name and address... they demanded my DOB and DL # also...then played games trying to get that information after they received my pistol back.

A polite letter,, firmly stating the due to the amount of hacking, personal information being stolen, and your choice of trying to protect your personal information, you do not wish to provide them with such personal information. Also point out that the ATF doesn't require it,, and that you have provided them with a valid FFL to be returned to if necessary.
Follow up with a formal but polite complaint to the Better Business Bureau.
Let them know you will be doing that as well.
Lastly,, again politely,, let them know that you will tell what company they are to as many social media outlets as possible that they want very personal information & will not warranty their products unless it's provided.
