Bought a excellent 9 1/2 " single 6, marked 22 cal. Thought it was 22 LR but bulged casing say different. It is definitely a Mag. Just requested letter ,serial # 193xxx would be 1962. Has been converted, so will be a shooter. Will look for a 22lr cylinder.

That model RSS9 was built as a convertible. Check the front of the mag cylinder (which apparently you have) ; it should NOT have the last three numbers of the serial number scratched on it. That didn't start till 360739.

Mine is a New Model 77-78 date, just curious, is your cylinder Fluted? My magnum cylinder is unfluted & LR cylinder is fluted. I don't know that Ruger did that for all Single Six years.

yes, not until the New models of 1973, when they roll marked them 22 magnum as well as removed the flutes on the 'new' .22 magnum cylinders, so as to SEE/KNOW, at a glance, just what /which cylinder was which,,,,all too many folks could NOT figure it out for those early convertible years.:rolleyes::cool:

All old and new model cylinders are fluted until about 1975 through 1976. Then cylinders changed irrespective of old or new model guns:

Magnum cylinders lost the flutes and got the 22 mag marking. LR cylinders lost the firing pin groove on the rear face.
