Check out his song, story and Youtube reviews. Brought tears to my eyes and hope to my heart. BTW he's living in a $750 trailer with a tarp over the roof and just turned down a $8,000,000 record deal. In June 20 people listen to him play at a farmers' market. In August 5,0000-6,000 people listen to him at the same location. It's the #1 song in the country. Both Blacks and Whites identify and unit with this song. His political views he says are just down the middle and he's not trying to play to the Left or Right. Just speak the "truth".
Say what? He was born in 1912 and Woody died in 1967 from complications of Huntington's disease.

Oh, sorry I see you are talking about Oliver Anthony. Why Woody Guthrie in you title?

Here are the lyrics for those who are hard of hearing. 😂

"Rich Men North Of Richmond"

I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all day
Overtime hours for bullshit pay
So I can sit out here and waste my life away
Drag back home and drown my troubles away

It's a damn shame what the world's gotten to
For people like me and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is

Livin' in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord knows they all just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do
And they don't think you know, but I know that you do
'Cause your dollar ain't yugo and it's taxed to no end
'Cause of rich men north of Richmond

I wish politicians would look out for miners
And not just minors on an island somewhere
Lord, we got folks in the street, ain't got nothin' to eat
And the obese milkin' welfare

Well, God, if you're 5-foot-3 and you're 300 pounds
Taxes ought not to pay for your bags of fudge rounds
Young men are puttin' themselves six feet in the ground
'Cause all this damn country does is keep on kickin' them down

Lord, it's a damn shame what the world's gotten to
For people like me and people like you
Wish I could just wake up and it not be true
But it is, oh, it is

Livin' in the new world
With an old soul
These rich men north of Richmond
Lord knows they all just wanna have total control
Wanna know what you think, wanna know what you do
And they don't think you know, but I know that you do
'Cause your dollar ain't yugo and it's taxed to no end
'Cause of rich men north of Richmond

I've been sellin' my soul, workin' all day
Overtime hours for bullshit pay[/center]

Downright communistic leanings.
Communism always succeeds in destroying any society it's introduced to because it sounds great to the poor peasants. They use envy and even actual justice against the untouchable rich people who own them like Feudal Lords grinding them into the ground and casting them aside when they start to wear out like a Harbor Freight screwdriver. What's Funny is that the Nazis rose up as the counter to the original Antifa that was terrorizing and attempting to extend the Bolshevik Revolution to Germany. Funny how History Repeats. This song isn't Right or Left. It's just a statement of our society today. We have useless people living on welfare getting fat because they have no concept of nutrition or productivity while others slave away at jobs wrecking their bodies and their lives just trying to get by while Rich Men plot and scheme how they are going to control us. I did pretty much wreck my body working long hours at heavy work. Fortunately between my Union Pension, Social Security and a money smart wife I'm doing pretty good except for maybe when the weather gets my full body Arthritis kicking in. There aren't many parts of my body I didn't manage to wreck over the years.

Yep. Hard times makes Hard men and women. Don't see how Gen Z will survive.
I saw a friend at breakfast this morning who told me that he could get his son into the Operating Engineers. His son said that the work is too hard to do and he wants to go to college for journalism. My friend is not happy with it and told his son that he is going to pay for his own education. The kid had a total freak out over it and his father told him to put on his big boy pants and face reality

Kid just wants another 4-8 years living off his parents.

Guthrie was most famous for This Land is Your Land, this land is my land, but I can easily imagine if he owned land and some squatters set up shop on land that he owned, built a house and sunk a well that Guthrie would have called out the law to boot anybody squatting off of HIS land. Will Geer Grandpa Walton was another famed left winger as was one of the more famous of the socialist one worlders H. G. Wells, but Wells lived wealthy. Not long ago with the Occupy Wall Street crowd there was a fair number of wealthy celebrities out protesting the unjustness of wealth gaps, but I don't imagine they ever gave away all but what they needed to lead comfortable, but not wealthy lives.

Limousine Liberals are what we have today. They show up and protest the very lifestyle that they live. There are a lot of people who have never felt cold or hunger which are powerful motivators if you have no social services to help you. Woody Guthrie never got rich in his life but l have a feeling that if he had property he would not run people off of it unless they were being destructive.

I have to tell the revelation I had many years ago. For those here who don't know it, I've been a chimney sweep working for myself for over 40 years.
Probably 30 years ago I was driving through town after doing a job that was awful... nasty chimney that had not been maintained for years and I had sucked up too much soot. I tend to talk to myself and so I said out loud, " damn, things can't get any worse than this." Now, what I'm fixing to tell y'all is not made up... a voice came out of nowhere and said to me, "Blume, you know you could be in a 3rd world prison eating bugs and sharing a bunk with a guy name Raoul?" I have since then only been grateful... even when I was in the hall way of the ER and a guy cut all my clothes off or when I took the dive off that roof and bounced off the porch roof and landed 15ft out in the lady's yard.

blume357 you said it. For as bad a day as you can have sometimes, it can always be worse. I know about soot and have cleaned the firesides of many boilers and punched miles of tubes. I divide my days into dog and hydrant days. As long as I have more dog days than hydrant days I am doing good. Bugs with Raoul sounds appetizing!

This verse is the one that has a lot of Lefties up in arms.

He also knocked Taylor Swift off of the most-sold list this week. For some, it's a sin to disrespect Tay-Tay. 😆😝

I shattered my arms falling 30' because a salesman sold a customer a single liner kit for a 4 story chimney because they didn't want to pay for 2 liners for one chimney. This left me piecing together the scraps I kept on the truck
My 4th trip up working by myself because weather had backed us up the ladder slipped out. They told me I would never work with my hands again. I was back to work in 4 months.

I hope he can resist selling his soul to some record label. They're looking at him as a brand new money machine, but that means they'll demand a constant flow of songs that meet the high standard of "Rich Men..." .

I've seen a lot of one hit wonders in my time that got eaten alive by the entertainment industry. I'd hate to see that happen to him.

John Rich said more or less the same thing in a tweet last week.

A few years ago I was at the local Butcher Shop buying chicken and ground sirloin and sausage and 2 small Delmonico steaks with cash. I draw a good pension and make good money but we spend carefully. There was a woman there buying 2 beef tenderloins and 8 huge lobster tails with an EBT card. The bill was over $500 and she was just gushing with pride because it was a welcome home dinner for her son that was getting out of prison.

A couple months later her son was back in prison. The next time he was let out he was killed just weeks after his release in a drug deal gone bad. But he was a good boy according to his mother and it was all his friends fault. You can't fix stupid...
