I was at the Outdoor Expo at Greentop Sporting Goods in Ashland , VA today and the Ruger booth had a Ruger Precision Rifle in .338 Lapua there. Rep said it would be announced this Wednesday along with .300 Win Mag. Awesome looking rifle!
The RPR in 300 Win and especially 338 Lapua will handle those needs of those shooters that need more than the 6.5 CM can deliver, including recoil and powder consumption. 8) Bob!!
The 338 Lapua can be a pleasant shooting caliber, assuming a reasonable weight rifle with a good muzzle brake. But in a light rifle with the MACHO-"muzzle beak I don't need no stinking break, besides I don't brake"-it can be as unpleasant as the 338 Winchester.
I'm looking forward to the RPR in 338 Lapua. It should be a good long range target and hunter. But for pure target and less than 500 yd shots on game it's not what you want!
