So I just won an old Boston Police Department police speed six on gunbroker and I'd like to find another barrel for it, have that barrel cut to 2.75 inches, and have it installed on the gun.

Before anyone takes offense about me planning to modify something with collector value, I will mention that it's already been modified a bunch and is scratched up to no end, so I don't really feel bad about making an easily reversible barrel swap.

My question is; will any given security/service/speed six barrel work? I imagine they never had a reason to change the thread pitch on the frames, but you never know.

Just ask for a Ruger Revolver Smith and see what he or she can do about the whole affair. You never can tell what a gunsmith has in stock.

Normally I'd have no problem with that but I don't want to buy a barrel and then have it not work, so I'd like to find out at least if it's the same threading for the various generations of guns.
