ya ya ya.... there's this one in the front just under half an inch in diameter that I've been trying to figure out also...

But seriously, the hole in the slide above the extractor is a cutout for the extractor pivot pin (I'll get a close up and put a link here tomorrow--- click here).

There is also a hidden hole under the rear sight where the drop safety resides. Outside of those two, pretty standard (except when compared to REV's rare variant that lacks the slide stop).

edited to add link to extractor photo...

all my dies are RCBS carbide ... EXCEPT the TCD's, which are Hornady.
Yep, RCBS has been pretty faithful to me, just every once in awhile I should break away from a family tradition...

The 1911 I'm loading up for is almost heresy for the RugerForum... dare I say Smith and Wesson. After having guns turn into safe queens, I wanted a modern 1911 for open carry in the field. I wanted it to be able to get dropped and run over, filled with dirt, all scratched up, and not shed a tear, so I picked out a stainless Smith and have been going through and replacing all the parts that aren't tough as nails. Most recent was the goofy "match trigger" they put in them, it went bye bye and the Smith now wears a more traditional length solid trigger that I stoned to fit (click here). Anyway, I'm finally getting a nice practical field gun that's somewhere between high cap poly-guns and my big bore Blackhawks (click here and here).

Nice S&W there, Ruber. Stainless guns are nice for carry, don't have to worry about them much.

I also replaced my factory trigger on my Colt Commander with a Greider. This one is a medium length. The gun originally came with a long, solid black Colt trigger. For some reason, the trigger felt TOO long, even though I have long triggers on my other 1911s. This medium length Greider is perfect. Took me a while to get it fit, and I probably could have made it fit a little better, but it is a MUCH better fit than the loosey goosey original.

Only thing that could make this gun better for carry is if it had an alum alloy frame, as the weight starts to bother my back after a few hours. But that's why I got the Colt New Agent :D

Hammerdown,

Very Nice!! I'm looking for one just like yours for my wife (I can only get those consignment here, so the search can take quite a while, and they move really fast when they do show up).

I've been really happy with Greider's products, I might try their medium length trigger, I've just been so used to the short LOP that I just never felt comfortable with the stock long trigger. The Chip McCormick parts work really well in the Smith also.

PS. Here's a link to the extractor photo... click here

Wooohoooo....

I haven't really been the biggest fan of Unique, but just finished up some plinking loads with a 230gr lead RN and 5.5gr unique (middle of the road from my manual).
:D :D :D

A very fun and accurate load and cycled very well, not a single hiccup. This is definitely my plinker from now on.

Yep, that's one I've used a lot and found very accurate and easy to shoot in all my 1911s.

I made up my first "target" .45 ACP loads with a 200gr LSWC and 4.7gr of W231. They're perfect in my Gold Cup with a 12lb variable rate recoil spring. Drops the brass right at my feet, or on the table.

A friend had some loaded up with the same 200gr LSWC and 4.5(?) gr of Universal, and these worked quite well too, even with the same spring.

I think my current 45 200 grain load is with 4.3 grains of 231. It's where I found the best accuracy for my Gold cups. It also drops the brass just to my right. I could probably catch 75% of them in a 5 gallon bucket if I placed it properly. It's big-time consistent.

Yep, I do love my W231 and had some similar 200gr loads, but I haven't seen 231 locally for quite a while and decided to try a few other loadings until supplies get replentished. Combined with a good deal on some 230gr RN, I think these are the cheapest .45 Autos I've ever loaded up (which doesn't hurt either).

There was about a 6 month period there where I couldn't find W231. The local store that carries it had everything else they normally stock except that one. And that was after the general drought ended; I just started seeing it again about 2 weeks ago.

I too had just about given up, and had a list of alternatives. I couldn't get HP38 regularly, either.

Thanks, good to know about the HP38, I'll keep an eye out. I just saw W231 was available on Midway recently too, so I was getting ready to break down and pay the hazmat, maybe it will show up locally again before that...

Just aquired one of the new Remington 1911 R1 auto's. If I decide to keep it(i am a single action nut") I will reload for it.

I'm a sixgunner too but my son wants a 1911 for Xmas. Since reading Bart Skelton's favorable impression of the R1, I've been seriously considering one..Let us know how your's pans out OK?

I always use a taper crimp on all my 45 ACP cast bullet loads.
I have always applied a 1 to 1.5 thousandth crimp. Just measure the OD of the crimped round about 1/8 inch back from the mouth of the case, then measure right at the mouth. You want the difference to be .001 to .0015. It's easy to do and once your crimp die is set you shouldn't have to change it.

Dennis.
am loading 45 acp for my blackhawk convertable and having trouble getting them to seat all the way into the cylinder the sized cases fit fine but when I seat the bullet in them they expand enough to not allow complete seating to that the cylinder can turn past the frame before lockup with the chamber what am I doing wrong??
