That's a little more than I paid for a Gen 2 Bisley, lettered and fancy in 41 LC. Real ivory and rubies!

Of course it's a LOT of money, BUT as long as their are people with a LOT of money at their disposal, the sky is the limit; THEY WILL PAY whatever it takes to buy what they want. I remain "FRUGAL", I can't help it 👀
p.s. go to tactical gun shops.... you fill find unbelievable treasures for CHEAP... it takes patience, but if you like paying half or "what it's worth", it pays off over (a long period of) time.
IMHO,
J.

I only have one SAA Colt (3rd gen 4 3/4" .45) but I troll the Colt SAA forum regularly. Ordinary SAAs usually sell for about $2K-$2.5K. For collectible guns, condition and originality are very important. The serious "experts" can spot inconsistencies that us mere mortals would never notice. A replaced barrel etc. can seriously affect the value. You can get seriously burned by a spur of the moment gun show purchase if you don't know what you're doing. You can post good pics on the Colt forum and they will give you a good evaluation of your prospective purchase. $3800 is too much if you don't really know what you're buying.

Got my 2nd gen Colt Peacemaker Centennial for $1200 last year at a local gun store on consignment. Original glass top walnut box and papers, unfired.
Been looking for a Colt SAA in 44-40, new ones go for $2000+

BearBiologist, that sir is a thing of beauty!
I was offered $5K for it before I even got it. Was sent to Mexico City in 1901 or1902. Was gold washed and had "cottage industry" engraving. Was it stolen from a rancheria ? Taken from the body of a dead Federale ? Who knows? It came from the Rez in AZ. Gave it to my daughter as an early bequeath. Along with a customVaquero I had made, with a matching engraved 1892 take-down rifle in 38-40

More pics of the Bisley:

I don't want to steal the original post more than I have. I have a lot of early Colt's (Bisleys & SAAs) and OM Rugers that I collected when I received an inheritance from my mom. I can post the older Colt's with the OP's permission if you'd like.

Here's mine.... It started life as a 3rd gen New Frontier (corrected from "SAA") .44Spl. with 7 1/2" bbl. Got it CHEAP, used +/- $500. Custom work by Andy Horvath.... It's now a 45Colt. Have no idea if it has any value, but I don't care, I shoot it regularly....I've shown it here in days gone by:

Sorry to hi-jack the hi-jack............

I had a three 1st gens (1893, 1900,1900) and a first year second gen as mentioned above, BUT it a little unique. That was only year they made them in .38 Special. I moved them on a few years ago. Scoured my pics and they aren't there.
