Trying to track down my great-grandfater's H&R revolver, one of the many little break-open .32 caliber guns.

I cannot find any H&R serial number info for guns made prior to 1940.

Anyone have a source for the numbers on the older guns?

Maybe a phone call or email here would help?

There is a book out there about the history of H&R's written by an author with the last name of Goforth. If you google it or him you may find out if you can still get a copy of it somewhere. There is also a couple of threads about H&R's on the S&W forum. I'll check it out and see if I can give you any more info if any is there. Good luck.

Ale-8(1), from what I read on the S&W forum the records before 1940 did not survive. However, one member had one with an S serial number prefix and says it was born in 1935. You can add or subtract a year or so from each letter and maybe get an approximate date from there.
