That is right, my Ruger started life as a 77/44 but after a long search and not finding a loading that was as accurate as I liked I decided to have it converted to the 357 x 44 Bain & Davis. I settled on
http://www.itdcustomgun.com/ to do it. They used a Douglas XX barrel contoured to the factory barrel. This target was the best from my first outing. It seems to like the 170 Speer GDSP's.

It joins my Contender barrel, Ruger Blackhawk, Encore rifle barrel and 94 Marlin in 357 B&D.

I think it is running around 1800-1900 fps. I do remember shooting some 125 gr jhp's over the Chrony and they were running over 2300 fps. One guy told me he had some 125 jhp's blow apart at around 2347. We are moving to Missouri in Sept and I hope to get a Deer with it using the 170 gdsp's.

An old, yet Great little wildcat. Did a conversion many years ago from a 44 mag carbine to 357B&D. A good exercise in silver brazing. The owner was very pleased with the results and was sure to bring in some pictures of his black tail buck.

Cast bullets around 170-180 grs, would be the cats meow IMO in the .357 B&D chambering. Good luck, and let's us know how it turns out. Please. Jimbo you are an enabler

Great project for minimal cost. Someone has done a 256 Win Mag on a 77/357 as well... Easy peezy and something different to hunt and play with. I also like the idea of a custom rifle using all 'factory' parts, as I did building a 458x2" American on a Ruger 77 Mark II using a Ruger #3 take off barrel origionally in 45/70.
Both 77/44 and 77/357 are good base rifles for switch barrel rigs, the retail cost of the factory rifles being one limiting factor.
I've wanted to do a 357 Bain Davis for a while.
