Ruger No1 caliber change

I have a beautiful Ruger No1, in a small caliber I do not want to shoot, and would like to get the rifle bored out to .475 to shoot 480 ruger, 475 Linebaugh and 475 Maximum. The barrel is a custom long range 30 caliber, almost 1" diameter at the end, so there's plenty of material to bore it.
Problem being I cannot find anyone to bore and rechamber in .475 caliber. Any ideas?

No 1 Rechamber?

I have been messing with belted magnums since about 1974...and the truth is, I don't really care for the belted case. I seem to get a lot better case life out of rimmed and rimless cases, even when keeping pressures in line on the belted cases. I happened to luck into 450 new Norma 375 Flanged...

Gunsmith recommendation for rechamber

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith to rechamber a Ruger 77? I have a 22-250 I would like to AI just for something different. Thanks!

I know and I have used, and will continue to work with Wayne York, at "Oregunsmithing" I've been very happy with his work.
I have a couple friends that have been happy with JES Reboring as well, but unfortunately neither has the tooling to re bore in .475 caliber. This is what I need to find, if someone has the ability to bore .475 caliber

If you find the right person, why stop at 475? Why not 500 S&W?

I had Noneman do my conversion, but it was years ago and took a long time. I think he started with a new barrel, though, rather than reboring the 416 Rem Mag it started as.

2nd on Wayne who owns Oregunsmithing. About 15 years ago I took a rifle with a Douglas barrel to him, wanting to bore out and rifle it from 33 win to 45-70. He checked it out and said he could do it. He told me then that only a few maybe 6 US gun shops could bore and rifle barrels outside of the gun companies. That barrel shoots a 405 gr bullet damn good at 100 yds with Peep sights.

Have you considered just having it re-barreled? It might be easier to find someone to re-barrel it instead of re-boring and rifling the existing barrel.

I might need to rebarrel of I can't find someone that can bore it in .475 caliber. I picked up two no1's that will both get converted from their ( custom built) current long range calibers. One is 32-40, the other is 38-56, both pristine with 27" heavy barrels. No idea who did the work, as the grandfather and father have both passed. Barrels measure 0.90 and 0.95 at the business end, so not a lot of taper.

Good luck on your custom conversion. A rebarrel might be your best bet.

One is going to be a 16.5" 50-110, still heavy, but much more manageable with half the barrel lopped off, and a .510 hole thru it.
It will join many more different 50-110 designs, none as modern as this Ruger No 1, by a hundred years.

I have had three No.1 rifles (RSI to 35 Rem., K1-B to 35 Rem. and 1-H to 454 Casull) re-barreled by McGowens Precision Barrels. All look great and shoot great. They weren't cheap and had about a year turnaround.
I had the barrels contoured to the Ruger specs so I could use the same wood.

Ruger produced a run of the No.1S Medium Sporter chambered in 475 Linebaugh a dozen or so years ago...Why not sell yours and hunt one of those down?

I have seen a few 475 Linebaugh examples come up for sale, but they were priced from $2,300-$2,900, and although they are in .475, I would need to still get it rechambered. With the cost of the Rugers I purchased, I could rechamber and bore them for about $450 (my price for making one 50-110.) or $1,000 or so for a rebarrel. That's 1/3 to 1/2 price of finding a factory gun, that still needs work to create what I'm looking to build.

I am thinking along this line for an orphaned No. 1 Sporter in 30-06, no iron sights. I would want 50-110 or 50 Alaskan.
