I owe a friend a favor and am listing his rifle for him. It is used but in good condition. Buttstock has some scratches and the frame is showing a patina but no serious rust or pitting. Rifle is mechanically sound and the bore is bright and shiny. It comes with a 3x9 Bushnell scope in Weaver rings. Rear sight is missing. S/N of the Remington 760 Gamemaster in .35 Rem cal. is 51175 if that will help you date it. He is asking $500.00 shipped and it will go FFL to FFL USPS insured to the lower 47 (no Calif.). PM me for further questions and pictures that I can text to you. I tried posting a picture here with no luck; maybe the link below will work. Thanks for looking.

Well, I tried to post a couple pics but that's why I asked for a PM so I could text them.

Rifle is still available as Stick58 backed out. Pics still available by text.

I believe the stock has not been shortened but the owner apparently added a "custom" spacer. If it has been cut, I'll correct this statement when I have a chance to measure it.

The ammo alone might be worth that. It's harder to find than 41ae these days! It's a nice field grade classic in a hard to find caliber. It's a solid $350 shooter. The right collector might pay more. Condition looks pretty rough. The barrel probably looks like the receiver. Interest in Great Grandpa's old hunting style rifles isn't what it used to be. My friends shop has had about 50 similar rifles and in a year maybe 2 have moved.

Just picked up my friend's rifle to get some answers for you guys. The LOP (length of pull} from the trigger face to the stock toe measures 12 3/4" which indicates it may have been cut. As the pictures show, the right side of the receiver is discolored/missing blue/patinaed but smooth. No surface rust. There is no barrel discoloration/scratches or rust. There is only one (1) magazine and bluing is missing from the bottom of it. The ammo pictured will not be part of the sale as it cannot be shipped with the rifle. It may be shipped separately. Bore and mechanical function is perfect. If someone wishes to make a REASONABLE offer in a PM, I'll pass it on to the owner.

Bump with better (I hope) and more pics. Max amount of pics allowed reached. Maybe I can do more at a later date. If the shortened stock is a real issue, you can probably get one on an aftermarket site, just sayin'. Thanks again for looking

... S/N of the Remington 760 Gamemaster in .35 Rem cal. is 51175 if that will help you date it...

Based on the serial number and early furniture, this could very well be from the first year of production:

It's definitely a C&R, which adds value; if it doesn't sell here, your friend might consider listing it in the "Collectible Firearms/Curios & Relics" category on GunBroker, especially if he's willing to ship it directly to a C&R FFL.

EDIT: I had a first-year-of-production 740 years ago, that came to me with a shortened buttstock - I replaced it with a much more recent Remington 870 20 gauge buttstock, which was inexpensive & a perfect fit (and luckily the wood tone even matched ;^). Mesa Tactical also makes an adapter ("Lucy Adapter") that allows the use of 870 12 gauge stocks on the 20 gauge & 740/760-series rifles.

Nice rifle in a great caliber!

As always IMHO, FWIW, YMMV, etc.
:)
