Lesser known but good movie of Garner's is "36 Hours". Also stars Eva Marie Saint and John Banner.
Him and the other two Americans in the camp running the still and sharing out the moonshine for the 4th of July: Down the British and Up The Rebels!I liked JG as "The Scrounger" in The Great Escape.

He did all of his own driving in the 1966 movie Grand Prix and held his own with the F1 drivers of the day. The directors had to calm him down because he was racing them too hard.
It's a love story with a bunch of cars in the background but the cars are the star. It was the first time anyone had used in car cameras and overhead shots from helicopters before. It's a good watch just for the racing scenes alone.
