Well, it was not the first time I posted something really stupid here and I'm pretty sure it won't be the last. About one minute after I posted it and was at the dinner table it dawned on me how easy it was to tell the scope was backwards.... I probably could have run back to my computer and deleted my post before anyone saw it, but that would not have been any fun.
Right on brother! Shoot, I guess we ALL brain "squib" once in a while!

My father once told me of talking to a retired Army Ranger who did not know how to swim.... Hell in 1949 he was a marine on a sub and they dropped him and some buddies off in the pacific to tread water and came back the next day for them.
These days, (and even back in the '80s) you had to pass a rigorous "swim test" just to get into Ranger School. I grew up on the Gulf so it was child's play for me …

I don't trust any picture I see on the internet. Too easy to fake. I believe even less that I read. Some are too quick to scream "fake news" then believe something else they see because it supports their opinion. Me? I don't believe anything. Period.

Obviously,, the people who have those scopes & knowledge of them can easily tell it's mounted backwards.

But I looked at it,, and I can see the adjustable power ring,, the eye-piece,, and understood it's backwards.

So sad any member of our armed forces is so unfamiliar with a weapon they may have to use that is standard issue,, in such a position.
Yes, but he has the right attitude toward all woke policies. M
Now which is more important social engineering or combat effectiveness?

I say that, for whatever reason, that photo has been manipulated. Take a look at the mounting. Where are the rings? The the mount looks like it is a one piece base but the scope appears to have been mounted from the left side. How many scopes have you seen the the mount screws directly into the tube? This is fake and to malign the Commander and his crew as incompetent is uncalled for.
ETA The rifle is set to AUTO for those who asked.

I thought my father was wrong on. that one... thanks for correcting me. My first year of college I actually did Ranger Training... it was a club at The Citadel called the Cordell Ranger Corps... we used to get flown over to the the Frances Marion Swamp and dropped off for the weekend...

If it's a Photoshop It's a pretty good one. I don't see any seams or anything out of place. Everything about it looks legit. VCOG 1-8 everything exactly where it belongs.
Ok Max,

Zoom in and look where his eyeball 'should' be, if his eye was lined up with a magnifier/red dot that is actually bolted to the top of the firearm.

I see rings holding 'something', which is covered up by the photo-shopped scope.

This photo is just something to make our Navy look incompetent and bums me out that most 'gun' people have fallen for the blatant propaganda.

Thanks to the links from Ride1949 and Arfmel, I would like to amend my comments above and after reading the link below - I'd just like to say our Sailors are screwed if they ever need to repel boarders.

Link below is from Stars and Stripes;

"Thank you for pointing out our rifle scope error in the previous post," the Navy later wrote on various social media accounts. "Picture has been removed until EMI [extra military instruction] is completed." The Navy defines EMI as "instruction in a phase of military duty in which an individual is deficient, and is intended for and directed towards the correction of that deficiency."

The John S. McCain was operating in the U.S. 7th Fleet's operations area when the photo was taken. The command referred questions to the Navy's Chief Information Officer, who did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment early Thursday.

Like I said in a previous post... I took out one of my 10/22s with a tactical scope and at 3 power looking through it backwards you have a pretty darn good sight picture. I could actually fire the thing and hit what I was aiming at probably out to about 100 yards (well not with the 10/22 but a better caliber.... and I could spray dern good with a M4.

I'm wondering if someone down the line did that on purpose as a joke to make the Commander look like the idiot that he is and did not realize how it was going to probably back fire on them....

I stand corrected. I was unaware of that type of scope/mount setup most probably due to its beyond my wallet price. It still baffles me the sheer number of personnel who should know better but yet didn't know or didn't care. My most humble apologies to all. I am truly saddened that my Navy has sunk to this.😔
