Hello everyone, first time poster here. I wanted to share my experience in fixing my Ruger American 6.5 Creedmoor rotary magazine. I hope someone can benefit from it.
I bought my American secondhand, and immediately found that it would not feed cartridges when loaded with more than two rounds. I took it apart to troubleshoot and discovered the inside geometry of the bottom left corner had an angle that was too sharp to allow the 3rd and 4th rounds to feed easily without pounding and banging on the mag to jostle them loose.
I contacted Ruger with my issue and they immediately sent me a three round stagger feed box magazine replacement. I could have tossed the rotary mag but being the type that is loath to turn away from any gun fix project I decided to see what I could do to make it work. I decided filling the corner with an epoxy ramp to allow the cartridges to roll freely would probably work.
I prepped the problem corner of the magazine by lightly sanding it and gouging some ridges with a heated torx screwdriver so the epoxy would grab them and hold fast. Then I cut off a piece of Steel Stick epoxy putty, kneaded it for a couple minutes to activate it and filled in the problem corner with it. I rounded and smoothed the putty into an arc with a cartridge. Excess was trimmed with an exacto knife to allow the rear cover to be reinstalled.
The end result is as good as I could have hoped for. The cartridges now roll easily over the corner without hint of impedance and all 4 rounds feed perfectly. The pictures should tell the rest of the story.
Cheers!
